I brought this phone because I wanted to downgrade back to the basics, quick functionality with non of the complication. people who are used to using smartphones with 16million colors and high pixels may not adjust to this phone at first. but i am very happy with it.

**the key quality of this phone is the unique battery life, I charged it three days ago and have used it heavily and the bars are still halfway. The way phones used to be 12 years ago, or shall I say the way its meant to be, oh those were good old days. :(((

for a basic phone, it does pack a bit of punch when it comes to features such as

    – Mp3 Player – it is quite basic, it cannot be played in the background, but its not bad, theres a sound effect feature, which is quite welcoming, and an auto off feature, shuffle, repeat, but no cover art.

    – Radio – Good reception, you can even record live broadcasts, but I dont recommend recording music, because it only records in 14kbps in my estimation, so only useful, for talk shows, news and what have you. (it does play in the background.)

    – Wap Browser – its good for information by text, or maybe you want to look up an article, it comes pretty fast too, if you want something more than that, then you will be disappointed, as the resolution is too low for that and its only GPRS/EDGE. but as saving grace it does manage to download videos, music and images from certain sites, but streaming a simple no no.

    – SMS – this is simple and sweet to use, and has an SOS feature, which I dont use but could come handy. it can store 300 messages

    – Organiser – Theres a calender included that can store a whopping 400 appointments, it also has a memo, world clock, converter and a calculator.

    – Camera, the picture quality is okay for random pics, its 1.3 megapixels and it could in handy, the video camera’s frames per second renders it unnecessary to use (you know what I mean).

    – Social Network – there’s a few basic apps, like facebook, myspace, flickr, picasa etc. but I highly recommend using a PC or tablet instead.

    – App friendly? – there are a few apps available on the zedge website, and some really fun games, but dont expect useful apps to work on this.

    other features include

    – bluetooth, stopwatch, timer, voice recorder, budget software and so on.

Please note it does NOT use a 3.5mm jack, but you will find a converter amazon easily, and also you can change the call ringtone to whatever mp3 you like, but NOT the message alerts

Good looking, unfussy phone for the non-obsessed, 20 Sep 2011

First off, a couple of confessions. This is only my second ever moby: I’m a 40 something bloke and have never quite cottoned on to mobile phone culture so my knowledge of the world is limited to say the least. I’ll also add that this phone spends most of its time turned off. It’s a bit more than an emergency phone and it comes out when I’m away from home but it’s certainly not used as a landline replacement.

Having said that, I’ve been using this phone for about a year now and like it a lot. It’s small, compact and easy to use. It’s quite good looking (although my teenage daughters would disagree) in a sleek, shiny black sort of way and although it’s not a smartphone neither does it look like a first generation brick. The screen is clear and bright and can be read well in sunlight. The buttons are also easy to use and the numbers come up on the display in very large font as you dial.

There is also a “suggested number” facility, which reads the number as you dial it and tries to predict who you might be calling. The menu system is fairly easy to follow and there is a customisable short-cuts function which also helps make things easy.

I bought a micro-SD card so that I could use this as an MP3 player and it performs that function well enough using the HF headset that comes with the phone.

The camera (1.3Mpix) is OK but if you’re used to even a bog standard digicam, photos taken with the phone will look awfully pixy.

There are only a limited number of apps on the phone and no games.

The phone can be charged from your PC and you can download software to manage the phone’s setup and transfer stuff to and from the SD card.

Accessories that I bought & now use
    ===================================
The phone’s internal memory is sufficient for a few photos and a couple of songs/ringtones but if you want to expand its internal storage capacity you need to buy a microSDHC memory card. 8GB is quite sufficient for me but you may want more.

Samsung use a microUSB terminal, so you can’t just any old USB/miniUSB cable that you might find lying around (and I have a drawer full of ’em). So, if you want to connect your Sammy mobile to your PC, you need to buy this …
Micro USB Data Transfer Sync & Charger Cable
You can also charge your mobile from your PC using this cable.

I purchased this on the back of the reviews. Taking into account I did not want a smart phone or 3g I decided to go for this one. I like the slide function as its easy to use and covers the keys when shut. I had no problem with getting the back off to put the sim and battery in. Yes its a bit tight and fiddly but thats what you want it to be. I dont want the back falling off because its loose. If you are careful the back comes off no problem.I had no trouble with bluetooth and connecting to my voice activation in my car which is called Blue & Me. I also had no trouble connecting to the internet, yes its a bit slow but still I had no problems, however thats not what I bought the phone for. I bought it for ease of use bluetooth that works, easy TXT’s and clear speaker volume when speaking to someone. It ticks all these boxes. Even the cameras not that bad, its not good but better than none at all. The BIG BIG plus is the battery life. It really does live up to the comments of others. I charged it as you do when it arrived and on using the phone on and off throughout the day it lasted 7 days. This is a huge advantage to me as my previous slide phone which was a lot more expensive than this one only lasted a mximum of 3 days with the same use if you are lucky. This is my first Samsung and as you can tell I am most impressed.
