This review is from: Apple iPod touch 32GB 5th Generation – Black (Latest Model – Launched Sept 2012) (Electronics)

When i saw a new iPod Touch had been released i decided it was fair time for me to upgrade from my 1st Generation iPod Touch. For me, the differences between the two are huge and i am so amazed and impressed at the improvements that have been made. I got the Product Red version from Apple, however if you want one of the normal colours i suggest getting one straight from Amazon. Ordering from Apple took two weeks and its something i won’t be doing again if i can help it.

Okay, so onto the review. The screen is really something to behold, and beside my 1st Generation looks really impressive – everything is so crisp and clear, while the 1st looks fuzzy and pixelated in comparison. Battery life is so far very good as well, i was playing a high quality graphics game for hours, something my 1st Generation could not handle, so i am really pleased. Siri is a really nice addition, this is my first encounter with it, and i’ve been enjoying using it to send messages and search the web quite often, it is really neat and responds well. Dictation is a handy alternative to typing, especially if you don’t have your hands free or you have difficulty with the small keyboard. I have used dictation a great deal to send emails and it works extremely well.

The camera is also very good, not as good as a decent Compact Camera of course, but still very good and excels in daylight. The Panorama mode is nice little addition, and making a panorama photo is quite ingenious. Video runs very well and playback looks especially lovely on the Retina screen.

The iPod runs apps like a dream, and transitions between menus and applications is very swift and clean. Multitasking is something i have come to appreciate very much, i find it very easy to switch between apps without any hassle or data being lost.

Messaging and Facetime are both two very good reasons why i decided to upgrade. Apple devices are so commonplace now that i can text and Facetime call a lot of friends and family for free (of course it relies on a Wi-fi connection though). This has proven to be so useful to keep in touch with people, so much so that i barely use my mobile phone at all now. Facetime video quality is not as amazing as shown in product pictures, but for what it is, it is a great portable alternative to Skype.

I feel the loop is a little useless though. I guess if you’re using the iPod as a camera often it is a good addition to have, however i just haven’t found any real need to use it yet. The Lightning cable might be off-putting for some, but in the long term, clearly this is how Apple will be going in the future. I’m sure in a few years, the 30-pin cables will be ancient history and there will be plenty of Lightning docks and speakers etc available. I’m happy to wait, sure i can’t use my current speaker dock (and there’s no way i’m spending money for an adaptor), but i’m certain companies will start releasing Lightning docks soon. And i actually really like the new cable – it is smaller than i thought it would be and you can put it in the iPod any way you like. I only wish the actual lead was longer though, but such is the case it seems with all cables packaged with iPods… An easy fix however is a USB extension lead. In fact, if you are ordering a 5th Gen Touch from Amazon, i strongly recommend getting an Amazon Basics USB Extension Cable along with it – they are very cheap but very reliable, and will save you aggravation over the short iPod cable.

So, overall, i would say this is an excellent upgrade, and definitely worth it if you have never owned one before or you have an old generation. If you have the 4th Generation iPod i guess it is probably not worth it, as looking at the specifications there isn’t too much improved since last year to warrant an upgrade. But still, to each their own. I have found iPod Touch devices to be extremely reliable, hard-wearing, fun and excellent quality – i had my 1st Gen for five years and it never failed me once. I’ve always found use for a good media device but i’ve never been one to be attached to my phone, or need a mobile phone contract. The iPod Touch is the perfect media player in my eyes and has everything i could ever want without having to have an unwanted phone built in.

    A worthy upgrade…, 17 Oct 2012

Just got mine this morning thanks to Amazon Prime after seeing it “in stock” yesterday.
Was a nice surprise considering most people seemed to think it’s not out until the 31st.
The 5th Gen iPod Touch is without a doubt, a worthy upgrade. About twice as fast as previous iPod Touches, so you will notice a significant difference in speed if you’ve had one of the older models.
I’ve had all revisions since the second gen and this one blows them all out of the water.
The display is amazing (same as the iPhone 5’s), the camera is VERY nice and much better than in old iPods (5MP for photos and you can film in 1080p!).
You’re pretty much getting the features of an iPhone 4S (inc. Siri!)
MINUS the phone function PLUS the new bigger and better screen.
I also really like what they have done with the shape, how light it is and that the back isn’t shiny anymore.
Definitely can recommend this. Yes, it may cost a bit more than the last gen but it IS worth it.
(Just for the record, I’m anything but an Apple Fangirl but credit needs to be given where it’s due 🙂 )

This review is from: Apple iPod touch 32GB 5th Generation – Black (Latest Model – Launched Sept 2012) (Electronics)

The new Apple iPod Touch 5th Generation is definitely without a doubt the best iPod Touch yet! The new 4″ retina display provides an excellent experience, the quality is outstanding and the colours are vibrant. The new earpods that come with the item are fantastic, they’re definitely an improvement from the last earphones by Apple! Note that these earpods don’t come with the microphone / volume controls. Another thing to point out is that the new iPod Touch is alot lighter than the previous generation, weighing in at only 88 grams! Both camera’s (front and back) are very good. One thing to point out though, when you take a picture and view it in pictures, the picture doesn’t fit the whole screen and has two black lines on either side of the picture. I don’t know why this is, but it may be fixed in the next update. Video quality is outstanding!

The battery life is absolutely fantastic!! Within 30 minutes (may vary) my iPod went from no battery to almost full! The new iPod also is installed with the latest version of Siri, which can now tell you match results, what films are showing at your local cinema etc. It also comes with Maps, where you can now change the view to flyover. Overall, a very worthy upgrade and would definitely recommend that you purchase one if you have £200. I previously had the 4th generation and the new 5th generation is better in every aspect! Definitely a must buy!! Absolutely love this new iPod and I’m very happy I made the decision to buy it!
