Belkin Verve Tab Cover for Kindle Touch, 3 July 2012
    Amazon Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Belkin Verve Tab Folio Kindle Cover, Purple (fits Kindle Paperwhite, Kindle and Kindle Touch) (Accessory)

Originally looked at Amazon’s covers with built in light but as other reviwers mentioned, the leather is appauling, hard and looks very cheap and nasty. So it was with trepidation I ordered this cover, wondering what the quality was going to be like. I needn’t have worried, the leather was soft enough to give a decent tactile feel, it fitted the kindle snugly with its elasticated corners and was robust enough for it to protect my kindle whilst it was in its constant home in the depths of my handbag. The magnetic tag on the cover comes in v handy both for a proper close and when you want to fold the cover back on itself for ease of holding in 1 hand. The only thing missing would be a built in light, but having got a candle II to clip on the top I’m all set

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Programme (What’s this?)

This product looked really good on Amazon and had the potential to be a fantastically sleek cover for my Kindle, but unfortunately (for me) it fell short of expectations.

    Good:
    – The colour is nice, not too ‘in your face’ but a change from boring black/brown
    – The magnetic fastening is reasonably strong, enough to keep it securely closed
    – Made for the Touch, so size is perfect and rows of small holes at the back for speaker output
    – The elastic straps around the corners of the Kindle hold it snugly – even vigorous shaking could not dislodge it at all
    – Despite being thin, the cover is reasonably strong and would withstand some knocks/pokes. Inside is a black ‘velvety’ material which won’t scratch your Kindle
    – There is a “pocket” on the inside of the front cover, although it would only take a piece of paper, ID card or similar

    Minor quibbles:
    – Although textured to look like it, it is not actually leather (although for vegans, this might be a good point!)
    – Can’t confirm without destroying, but I believe the cover to be cardboard or similar inside. Front cover is not quite flat but curves slightly – like card does

    Big disappointment
    – The little purple bits over the corner elastic serve no purpose. They don’t improve the looks when open, and what is the point when shut? Obviously ‘fiddly’ to stitch on, one of mine is wonky to the elastic, another I can see the (white) underneath side showing through
    – The only effect of these bits is to stop the front cover sitting snug against the Kindle. Instead it is lifted up a good few millimetres. When the cover is closed and you look from the top/bottom end, you just see a yawning gap.

Without those purple bits on the corners, this would have got 4-5 stars. With the elastic alone (which is dark grey and would tone with the Kindle itself) the cover could fit snugly to the Kindle, making the whole thing really slim and sleek. It could have been less than a centimetre thick, but instead is more like half an inch.

Conclusion: An effective cover, but adding those silly corner bits has proven that “more is less”. Good, but could have been great…

Love my new Kindle in this cover. Not really a lot to say about a Kindle cover so best to check in Dec 2013 when it has had 12 months wear
