This review is from: Windows 8 Compatible Tablet “Elite” – 9.7 Inch HD Display, Dual Core Intel 1.5GHz, 32GB (Personal Computers)
Ok, I’ve only had my elite two days but right now I would not buy another.
I prepped my USB stick with windows 8 pro before the tablet arrived so as soon as it got here I was ready to start.
The tablet was semi-charged so out of the box I plugged my USB stick in and switched it on. It didn’t boot from the USB stick – it tried to boot to the hard drive with no O/S on it..
Eventually after a bit of faffing about and pressing the ‘square’ button five times after sliding the on switch I finally got a boot menu (five times is the magic number, pressing it one, two three, four or six or more times has never worked for me..)
I selected the USB stick and off went the windows 8 installer. Windows 8 installed very quickly, hooked into the wifi and it started running.
Quickly I noticed a problem. Rotate the tablet, nothing happens. The screen stayed in landscape mode. I checked the video drivers and they are the latest version so somewhere there must be something to tell the tablet which way it is and to rotate the screen…
After a few hours of searching on the tablet, in the devices (none are showing any problems) and online I thought “ok, windows 8 is fairly new, the pdf manual shows it happening in windows 7 so how about I install that??” so I installed Windows 7 ultimate (and all the drivers) – still no screen rotation.
After trying that I thought “how about ubuntu”. So I installed that. Still no screen rotation…
Ok, what is in the BIOS?? To install windows 7 and ubuntu I’d had to plug a USB keyboard in (until part way through the install). A few reboots and mashes of the “del” key I got into the BIOS. There are very few options in the BIOS/ Basically you can change the date and time (or load failsafe/optimal settings) and that is it. No enabling or disabling of features so the g-sensor wasn’t disabled.
So, back to windows 8.
Fresh install and starting to try things out. HD videos do not play smoothly – even 720p videos don’t. But then they can’t as the screen resolution is 1024×768 and 720p is 1280×720. Doh!! Hmm – how about a game of angry birds in space?? Nope – Open GL support fails. Bad piggies plays ok though so it’s not all bad 🙂
The HD port is still not supported in Windows 8 Pro – but if you have a telly with DLNA you can play videos to it. As long as they aren’t HD that is as the Elite not only won’t display them itself it also can’t stream them quick enough to play.
And 32GB isn’t enough space really. Windows 8 + a few apps has devoured 16GB of space leaving me just 13GB (hey wait, 16+13 is not 32GB…)
All the good features are in Windows 8, all the things that aren’t working properly or just aren’t working are the things that the tablet should be doing (rotation, graphics, HD out, streaming etc)
Oh – and it’s heavy, and gets quite hot, and I haven’t found a nice case for it – it’s too thick to mount in most normal cases so I had to buy a neoprenes sock.
On the plus side battery life is good though.

Well not fully Windows 8 compatible, due to low screen resolution this tablet will not run the app start screen, will show the screen but the apps will not start from it, you will just get the message hat the screen res is too low
