This review is from: Asus X54C 15.6 inch laptop (Intel Pentium B960 2.2GHz, 8Gb RAM, 500Gb HDD, DVDSMDL, LAN, WLAN, Webcam, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit) (Personal Computers)
I received this laptop a few weeks ago so I now feel like I can give an honest review about it. I found this laptop after searching for a reasonably priced laptop but with decent features and decided to purchase it, and I’m so glad I did.
The pro’s; excellent speed – with 8gb of RAM,a decent intel processor and handy features such as pre made battery options makes this laptop lightning fast. hard drive – it is split into two sections, allowing you to run windows 7 alongside another operating system if you wish. I find this feature very handy as I run ubuntu 12.04 with no problems, but it allows me to have windows 7 for certain programs. quality screen – The brilliant speed makes watching HD content online a breeze. I frequently watch bbc Iplayer in HD and the screen has a nice brightness and crisp feel to it. keyboard – Ive owned a wide range of laptops in the past but I find this keyboard one of the most satisfying to use.
cons; build quality – The whole laptop has a slight plastic feel to it. It doesnt bother me too much, but I am being extra careful with it. The hinges look slightly flimsy to me but I guess I cant comment too much on them and only time will tell. battery life – seems a little on the low side, however I get around 2 hours of high quality performance and 2 and a half hours on battery saver, so its not too bad, but I would consider it if you were using this laptop whilst travelling as it could be an issue.
overall I’d give it 4 and a half stars as for the price, this is truly an excellent laptop, especially if your on a budget. If you are thinking of buying it feel free to ask me any questions 🙂

A nice cheap laptop, great keyboard and screen, seems well-made, been using for 3+ weeks now. 8mb memory, so good for running a virtual machine on – and as previous reviewers have commented various Linux distros work well… seems so to me too ( (k)ubuntu 12.04 so far). Supplied Windows 7 works nicely as well. Not yet seen issues re. build quality or performance as per some reviewers, will update if I do. Get one – send it back if no good, in my experience Amazon excellent for returns of no-like / dodgy bits of kit.

Ordered on the 16th of July at 11pm, and arrived on the 18th at 11am. Delivery only took 36 hours which is a record for me on amazon, and wasn’t expecting this incredible machine until Friday at the earliest.
The Laptop itself looks and feels like a expensive laptop with its solid keyboard and quality carbon fibre styled lid. For £330 pounds you can’t go wrong when you look at the specifications, with 8gb of ram and a decent processor this laptop is extremely fast and is the quickest i have ever had. Before this laptop i had a Sony Vaio which lasted me 6 years before it finally gave up, and got me through college and two degrees. I realize that technology has advanced in those 6 years, but wasn’t expecting this when my Sony Vaio cost me twice the price and was less than half the quality of this Asus.
I didn’t know to much about Asus as a brand, but quickly found out that they use all their own technology and don’t borrow from other companies. In fact they specialize in being the manufacturers for Dell and Sony which is reassuring when deciding to choose this laptop. For over a week i looked all over the internet at reviews, and found them to be positive. The only drawbacks which people have mentions is the sound isn’t loud, but i find it’s more than adequate and also the fact that the laptop makes next to no noise means you can hear it clearly. The sound can easily be fixed by purchasing some cheap speakers online which is the cheapest way for a person who is on a budget like me. The webcam is good enough for msn and skype which is all i would ever need it for 🙂 and really see it as a attached bonus so didn’t expect great things.
I could go on all day about how great this laptop is, but trust me that for this price you won’t find anything better at the moment and it will be a excellent addition.
