You do need a protective case for your Fire HD, and this is about as good as you get, in my opinion, balancing looks, protection and usability. I have knocked off 1 star for the near £40 price tag and not always secure ‘standing’, but otherwise it is an excellent case and I would thoroughly recommend it.
Nicely finished in black leather, with rubberised edges to hold the tablet securely – the Kindle fits very snugly into the case, and there are cutouts for the connectors, speakers, earphone socket, volume control and on/off switch without compromising the integrity and protective properties of the cover.
There is a magnetic sensor in the case that puts your Kindle ‘to sleep’ when it is closed, and then ‘reawakens’ it when opened again. This certainly saves you shutting-down and booting-up time if you used the power switch instead.
The textured surface of the case means it is comfortable and secure to hold, and the cover folds right over the back without any problems at all.
I have noted issues with the case standing securely on a shiny desk surface – the back cover especially tends to slip on occasion (not every time by any means) and the whole thing falls flat.
That minor niggle aside, and the high price, this case is obviously tailor-made for the Fire HD and is a quality addition to your kit

I think this case is great!I’m only knocking one star off for the rather high price but it is a quality case made of real leather and fits the Kindle Fire HD perfectly! It actually pushes into the case so it could never slip out or move inside. The stand function works great and the device switches on and off when you open and close the cover. A perfect case for your new Kindle Fire HD if a little expensive, but then again I’ve paid more for an iPhone case!

This review is from: Amazon Kindle Fire HD Standing Leather Cover, Honey Yellow (will only fit Kindle Fire HD) (Accessory)

Having purchased your Kindle Fire HD, you need a case for it. This is the Amazon version (and be warned that it will only fit the Kindle Fire HD, it is quite specific in size) and it has some really great pro points, but some minuses too.

On the plus side, this is a great snug fit and really easy to use – you simply press the kindle into the case, couldn’t be easier. It is also nice and strong and leaves the ports/speakers uncovered for easy use and access. There are a nice range of colours and the cover itself is well made and comfortable to hold. The front cover flips all the way over, making it better to hold than the covers for the KK for instance, which only open like a book. Lastly, the cover has a magnetic clip to hold it closed – when you open the cover it wakes your kindle and when you close it, it will put your kindle into sleep mode.

So, what, if any, are the disadvantages? A major one is that the definition of ‘standing’ is possibly different to mine. If you put the kindle in landscape mode it stands up, but is not very stable. If you are reading and have the kindle upright, then it is difficult to read unless you forego the standing option and prop it up against something to tilt the screen, which is what I did with my KK. It would have been nice had you been able to adjust the stand somehow, making it more stable and comfortable to read from. Also, the magnetic clip is not that strong and I am not convinced it would stay closed if you had it in a loose bag.

Overall, this case is much better than the Amazon one I brought for my KK – it is simple to fit, holds the kindle snugly and is protective. I like the case waking the kindle, it’s a nice feature. I am just disappointed that the case is not really stable when standing – hopefully that will be improved with the next generation of kindles and accessories.
