Basic phone, but dual SIM works well, 11 Oct 2011

This review is from: Nokia X1-01 Dual Sim mobile phone, red/black, unlocked/sim free [Electronics]

Pros: dual SIM functionality works well (both SIMs active to receive and make texts/calls), handy built-in torch and impressive battery life. Lightweight.
Cons: all plastic phone with cheap look and feel, crude display and ring tones.
Overall: good for international trips but you will probably want to switch to your regular phone whenever you don’t need the dual SIMs.

I have to admit, I am a Nokia follower, and this appealed to me especially because it is a Nokia … Was I let down.. probably..
The X1 came within 24hrs, opened the packaging.. No connector for computer back up.. The box seamed very sparse, and it was.. Battery, Phone and charger..
Exactly what I had ordered… a basic slim phone that’s big enough for my pocket and everyday use.
Got the phone out, put in two Sims, my work Sim which is Orange, and my personal one which is Vodafone, the display come up showing two Sims which you can re name as you see fit, you have a choice of which Sim is your default Sim, and you are away .. I thought I would be referring back to my original Nokia’s within hours.
4 weeks on I am still using the phone, and it is really good, I have adapted to using 1 phone, and the features that I thought I needed.. well I can get buy without ..
The phone does not have: – Bluetooth .. I only used it to connect to the car in phone system.. and send pictures to my laptop, I now drive safely and don’t make calls whilst I drive .. tick in the box ..
You receive calls and Text exactly the same as if it was 1 Sim with the option of different ring tones for each . Tick in the box ..
The Phone does not have a camera, I used the camera mainly for work, I don’t get asked to take pictures at work any more .. another tick in the box ..
The phone numbers I have on my existing Sims, are still on the Sims, plus I still have the phone memory as well, the phone book on the phone lets you search all numbers in 1 list. Another tick in the box .
With the option to use option before pressing call, you get the option to choose the other Sim an d make the call. Another Tick in the box

The phone is exactly what you need to cut down to 1 phone if you don’t need Bluetooth and a camera.. Personally I find it a little too basic, I would like the features, so I am looking for a Nokia that has just what I want .. dual Sim phones are the way for me .. I am using the phone and would now only swap for another dual Sim .. Update :- now June 2012 (9 month) and I am still only using this phone .. winner ..

Fairly happy with the purchase of an X1-01. Interface a tad annoyingdepsite being used to Nokias. obviously at the priice its bound to be limited, but a little awkward in places. Phone is pretty sturdy, dual sim works flawlessly but unless you alter the menu settings you can end up with ques/warnings about which sim to use etc. Likewise, the sms sending process requires at least a couple of key presses too many and adding multiple recipients to an sms has as yet eluded me (if it is even possilbe). Battery does literally last a week! (e71=3days+, iphone=1day!!)

Red colour is not that bad even for me a prolific black phone only person.

sound quality better than the low end Samsung i’ve had as a 2nd handset previously. and at least similar to my e71.

worst point, the supplied headset/ear piece is/was not fully compatible… not sure what that is supposed to be about. user error? it just says ‘not compatible’ the minute i plug it in…. not much i could get wrong with that.

Update: have since found the method to send to multiple SMS recipients. So it is there, just a little dated in its methodology I.e. MSG stays open, and can then be sent to separate contacts one after the other. I have also found that the mic/sound is better than the much newer touch screen Samsungs. Battery life has remained consistently outstanding after a year, it still lasts a week with limited call time. The supplied headset has mysteriously started working, I have no explanation for how/why. The headphones are however horrific in terms of comfort and so the headset remains an item of little use in my opinion. Have dropped the phone quite a lot and it still functions as before. I’m pleased about that as I am rarely careful with such as phones, they are just a usable tool for me.
