This review is from: Fujifilm FinePix S2980 Digital Camera (14MP, 18x Optical Zoom) 3 inch LCD Screen (Electronics)
Firstly, I have to say that this camera had to be replaced after 3 weeks where the first one got stuck in some kind of a “rebooting” loop. However, I was so impressed with the original one, I opted for a replacement rather than a refund. The camera allows a complete novice to take decent photos. The instructions are not too complicated and one doesn’t feel intimidated by an avalanche of directions in how to do all the different things. It has a “point and shoot” option where the camera will automatically choose the right setting. One particularly good setting is the “panoramic” one, which takes spectacular photos. All in all, I’m very happy with the purchase and would recommend it to other beginners

I purchased this camera a week ago. Still researching on the features because there are lots of manual options. Feels good in hand, good battery life and flash is not automatic. The dedicated flash lifting button is also nice. It is not very very good in low lights from the images which I have taken so far, but it won’t just fill the image with soft white backgrounds like ordinary compacts. So overall nice little camera and I heard that focusing capabilities are better than S2950.

I am a keen photographer(amateur) and on limited income (State pension) so upgrading from my 4 Mega Pixel Minolta was limited in choice. After reading the reviews on this camera and the excellent price on offer I took the plunge. I was horrified by the first couple of shots in the fully automatic (Point n Shoot) mode, they were very grainy and not a patch on the Minolta. I went to the other modes and took control of the ISO setting and thank goodness it solved that problem. It produces good images at ISO 64 – 400 settings. If anything the inbuilt software tends to overdo image sharpness, but one click in my editing software cures that exuberance. The zoom works well and is quiet, but in the movie mode it tends to refocus too easily but possibly altering the autofocus settings will cure that. The panoramic facility is a doddle to use and produces great results. The flash is adequate for most indoor shots – but I seldom use it.
