I got this as a freebie, thinking I’d give it a go, but not expecting much! How wrong was I? I read it in one sitting, and promptly downloaded the rest of the series! I loved this book – it’s such a well written, spooky story! It also sets the scene for the rest of the adventures, getting us familiarised with the main characters.
This is the first book I have read by this author, but I’ve downloaded everything else I can find! I am hoping that they will all be as good as this one.

As a writer myself (and no, before you ask, I have no affiliation with the author and until I read this, I had no idea who he was) I have very little time to read, but I downloaded this on my Kindle a long time ago and finally got round to reading it. I am so glad I did.
It has been a LONG time since a story has captivated me the way The Turtle Boy did. Completely unique and Kealan’s voice is just wonderful. There are lines in this story that I am jealous of. Seriously. It chilled me to the bone and captured my heart. I can’t wait to read Kin.
Kealan (quite by accident) has now ended up doing a blog post for me and when I realised who he was, I emailed and told him how much I loved his book. Miss this kid at your peril, he is a name to look out for.
BUT, beware. This is NOT a kid’s book. One reader has already made that mistake. It is so far out there, that I wouldn’t read it if you are easily disturbed or offended.
Brilliant. Move over Dean Koontz, there’s a new ‘odd’ boy in town.

This novella is the first tale in the series. It is the summer of 1979 in Delaware, Ohio, and the tale takes place over that summer. Eleven year old Timmy and his best friend Pete visit the local pond where rumour has it that there are large turtles. Whilst there they come across the incredibly creepy Darryl, and run away. Both the boys are banned from the area, and Pete’s dad says he will send him to summer camp. With Pete gone, Timmy plays with Kim, who has also seen the mysterious Darryl. Both of them decide to visit the pond, but are found out.
With Pete’s dad getting really angry at the children, what is wrong at the pond? As things get creepier Timmy is about to find out. Full of creepiness, and more than a dash of the gothic, this is well written, and is sure to keep you hooked. If you like early Stephen King you should like this.
